214: Lastpass - Managing your passwords to get you out of password hell. 2022 edition
In this episode, we are taking an updated look at Lastpass, our Password Manager of choice.
Why updated? because I did one in 2018 and it's safe to say that the quality of my videos has improved since then, and I was cringing every time I sent it to someone.
also LastPass has changed and improved since then (as has the competition) and I particularly wanted to draw attention to the business case for sharing access to a site without sharing passwords.

    No. 70th like, and a new sub... Yeaaah! Nice video. I'm also have a lot of hardware and electronics. And slowly trying to sort it out by their category of cause. And now with external power adapters. I take note of it's info printed on the power adapter. And roll the cord around it to be more compact. And then put in small to medium sealed plastic bags, and with a marker I write those info on the bag with kind of big letters. When in my age, my sight has been better in earlier years like most older folks. Plus sometime the font the use almost seems a micro-film size. Thankfully not that often. But the print can be a bit worn down, from rubbing against other electronics in my basement etc. So if really unlucky, there both micro-font used, and also a bit worn down surface. Then I can be lucky sometimes using my mobile phones camera, and zoom in. Either remember the info or take a photo. Having most of the info with volt, amps, it were nice to also get the classification of the plugs from their sizes. Having found an adaptor with the right volt, and amps, it's a bummer to get the stuff out, and then realize the plug doesn't fit (what she said 😀) . Easy to just cut the cord, and connect another plug for what you need. I did that back in the days (when I were a rebel 🙂), but also a bit stupid, if suddenly you eg. found that laptop, that has been gone for a while, and now it's right adaptor has another kind of plug connected. Better in my mind, to just sort out ones mess. And there's also the possibility to find adaptor-tips/adaptor-plugs online, and simply connect those. And disconnect easy again, since it's not hard-wired connected (or what the right word for it?!? manually spliced together?!?) BTW: Sorry, English are a bit broken. Danish guy from Denmark. Regards from Krusty in Denmark

    What about HDMI to DP cables? Do those work?

    • @kepstin
      @kepstin 4 місяці тому

      Maybe or maybe not - check reviews on specific products. Converting HDMI to DP requires active electronics, because the signal format is different - but those electronics are very small, and might be hidden inside a connector. Real HDMI to DP converters will sometimes have an extra power connector (USB) in case they can't get enough power to run from the HDMI port. The specifications will also say what HDMI and DP versions are supported, and what the maximum resolution and refresh rate are.

    • @kepstin
      @kepstin 4 місяці тому

      Note that cables that go the other way around - from DP to HDMI - are real! These cables use a feature called DP++ where some computer can output an HDMI signal over the DP connector, so the cable requires minimal electronics. These cables only support HDMI 1.4. But if your computer does not support DP++, or you need HDMI 2.0, then you need to buy an active adapter instead.

    The yellow one is really weird. I've seen other versions of it on laptops. There it is no sleeping charge, but USB-C power delivery inlet for classrooms, as the regular USB-C is too fragile. What the heck? So yellow can also mean 48V power delivery.... I get home sick for Firewire and USB-B ports. They were so straightforward in use. Especially the "everything" is host principle of Firewire is much needed in USB. Connect 2 computers with USB: you got yourself a network. Connect a portable hard drive to 2 computers, you got yourself a NAS. 45W power delivery by default. Cables up to 4,5m.... Damn life was easy in 1995.

      @@TechDoctorTV the point of the comment was not to do that “buying 2nd hand” results into the P1 V2 on eBay being $175…….when you go to there website brand new $120…….so all you can do is fix this wheel and not diy? A formula style rim would be nice but not for $200 and reguardless I get a podium adapter, it’s $150 then I have to get an oval rim minimum $50 and formula wheel minimum $200 right back where I started except slightly cheaper…..this all comes from the ability to change on the Logitech g920 kinda crazy companies and people have no idea how that works. “But you can buy a different wheel” sometimes people don’t like talking to a wall and would be cool to even hear if the answer is idk or no you cannot do that would be straight up but redirecting to something the majority is clearly knowledgeable is just plain annoying 🤦‍♂️

    OMG thank you sooo much for suggesting the chisel and hammer. Yep, if you slowly keep hammering the chisel (don't even need that much force, just a lot of repetitive hammering on the chisel), it pries the lid open. It's such a terrible design on LaCie's behalf though: the LaCie rugged external case has screws which makes it sooo much more practical to open/close for troubleshooting.

      As long as it is a real adapter, I’ve never found one that needs power.

      @@TechDoctorTV my problem is that i have a rx580 which has hdmi and DP port and my monitor only does have vga port only.. i used HDMI to vga adapter it has no problem displaying but when i play games on high settings the screen starts flashing black screen and it wont. Stop until it looses signal and eventually need to restart the system unit.. i researched and found out that i need to use the active converter where it has a 5v power cable because the passive adapter sometimes cant handle the heavy graphics...

      @@Sneby. ahh, in that case get the powered one. VGA is pretty old technology, so your mileage might vary.

      Maybe that’s why I keep failing those “am I human” tests… 🤣🤣🤣 I do like to edit things to keep it tight, and I guess that gets added to the unintended consequences! Maybe I have a look on the cutting room floor and see if I can make a blink video.

    Thankx FYI Things Not mentioned, that I've learned from some experiences: 1. If you don't have a caliper. Drill bits can be used to measure the plug size your trying to determine for purchase, if you know the size of your drill bits which is labeled in the bits storage box. 2. I've had success wiring in/connecting the DC stripped end of an old transformer to a traditional disposable battery device which as no plug for a transformer. Making the battery device, battery less for some items which needed it. Connected usually where the battery ends connect. Of course if the batteries were in series then the voltage is added all together. Often the DV voltage was a bit more than the batteries so the device runs a bit faster/stronger now which is often also nice. No longer wasting batteries and our environment and wasting your $$. I see thrift stores have old transformers for sale that could be used for this. Examples I remember, come to mind: Cat spinning in a circle under cloth chase toy, because cat would play for hours and hours and wear batteries out fast. Fuzz Balls remover shaver, because it was too slow especially as the batteries got weaker and batteries didn't last long and I had a whole sofa to go over! A table light display, because it was a cheap received xmas gift that was cute but we would never turn it on because in a few days the batteries were dead. 3. If the replacement transformer is recharging internal batteries in the device it's plugging into, you better make sure the new transformer is a perfect match and has any internal regulating electronics inside it. Also you don't want it to be overpowering and recharge the batteries too fast. This could all be a safety hazard with lithium batteries catching fire these days. Take care

      Thank you for your great comment. Drill bits for sizing is one I’d never have thought of! I did do an episode on replacing batteries here: 203: Upgrading from Batteries to Mains or USB Power ua-cam.com/video/RQoIdQ_lgKg/v-deo.html
